Rules

  • Submissions may not appear on any other websites, social networking sites, blogs or event websites for the month they are being submitted in order to remain eligible, unless otherwise arranged with the One Wave Wonder event organisers. The same applies to any print publications other than Zigzag Surfing Magazine for a two-month timeframe from date of submission. Submissions that appear digitally or in print elsewhere before being submitted to the Oakley One Wave Wonder powered by Zigzag may be disqualified, depending on the circumstances. If you are not sure, ask.
  • Only submissions uploaded within 21 days of the ride’s occurrence will be considered eligible (excepting rides documented over January 2012 for the February upload. Both Jan and Feb waves are valid for the first month’s upload). This condition is regarded as vital to the success of the One Wave Wonder and may only be voided by prior arrangement with the event organisers.
  • It’s not necessarily about the best, most perfect wave ridden – it’s what’s done on the wave that really counts.
  • There is no limit to the number of submission that may be made by any individual surfer or videographer / photographer during the One Wave Wonder, provided they fall within the event timeframe.
  • Video clips can only feature one ride per entry i.e. not multiple different rides. If you have a few different waves of one surfer you want to enter, split them up and submit as individual entries. Photo submission must be sequences of no less than five frames. Video and photo entries must show the surfer making the wave or move.
  • There are no limitations on surfers and videographers / photographers working together either. If you want to partner with a certain surfer /surfers or videographers / photographer and then split the loot and trip together, that’s your call and 100% permissible. Oakley and Zag just want to see the best rides going down.
  • While organisers expect the bulk of entries to come from South African shores, submissions can be from waves ridden and documented anywhere in the world provided it falls within the timeframe and the surfer is a South African passport holder or a holder of an equivalent document (work permit, etc). If you’re not sure, ask.
  • Don’t expose spots unnecessarily. If it’s a sensitive or secret spot, just give the broad geographic location, for example ‘Western Cape’ or ‘KZN’.
  • Tow-ins and tow-ats are eligible and the surfer may be strapped in, but rides will be judged taking this into consideration.
  • The event organisers reserve the right to employ whatever means necessary to verify the surfer, the wave, and the date of the ride. Anyone found to have deliberately entered with fraudulent intentions will be barred from further entry to the Oakley One Wave Wonder powered by Zigzag and may be subject to prosecution and a snotklap. Oakley and Zigzag take no liability for any kind of copyright infringement incurred by uploaded clips. By uploading a clip, you take responsibility.
  • Prizes are redeemed as is. Flights will be ex South Africa, cash will be paid in ZAR. If the prize money has to be paid into an overseas account (for example to a foreign videographer), it will be at the exchange rate the bank gives us on the day of the payment. Although the prize money is not taxed by us, South Africans must produce a valid SARS tax number when claiming the cash. If you don’t have one, get one. The Wave Runner cannot be negotiated for an equivalent value prize, equivalent value cash or a different model. We reserve the right to change the prizes should circumstances demand.
